Not Too Late For Fall Wreath

I received an email the other day with the title:

"Not too late for fall"

Well THANK GOODNESS!
I put out my few fall decorations (inside my house) yesterday.
{Better late than never!}

My mums,
that have been sitting in the garage waiting to be planted for almost a month,
on the other hand...
it is too late for them!
So... I'll stick with artificial flowers this fall!

I recently got a special visit from my oldest friend.
Not that she is old, but I've known her my entire life.
We are alike and different in the perfect combination.... when we see each other, even after months of being apart, we can pick up our friendship like we just hung out the day before.
She's one of my bestest friends and extra special to me because were are family.

Here we are this summer, holding each others' 3rd baby...

We decided to get crafty when she visited a couple weeks ago.
We pinned fall wreaths like crazy and came up with a combo that we liked.

To start, we took a trip to Hobby Lobby to purchase grape vine wreaths, burlap and flowers.

We started by bunching the burlap roll into little sections and secured with floral wire.

Then we placed the burlap onto the wreath to get an idea of how we wanted the burlap to lay...

When we liked how it looked, we attached it to the wreath with the same wire....

Next came the flowers {attached using hot glue}.

To make the bow, we used this technique:

VERY simple and easy. You can follow these instructions as well.

Then we came to a stopping point. Or at least, I did. My original idea was to add my last initial but the one I purchased was too big.

My cousin's initial was the perfect size.
After spray painting it with chalk board paint, it was the PERFECT addition to her wreath.
It will be so easy to change her 'Welcome' wreath to a 'Thank You' wreath or a 'Happy Birthday' wreath... the possibilities are endless!

I finished my fall wreath with a chevron burlap bow (made the same way as the one above) and a small burlap bunting that I painted with the letters F-A-L-L.

And meanwhile, in the living room....

{love time with family}

Happy FALL y'all!

DIY Headband Holder

Here's the headband nightmare that was in existence in my daughter's bathroom just a few short days ago....

(You'd think the girl has 10 heads to wear all of these!)

I started this project with
1. a hate for the disorganized headbands,
2. a large oatmeal canister,
3. mod podge,
4. cute scrapbook paper.

Read closely, because it doesn't get much simpler than this...
1. Cut your paper to the size of the canister you are using. (I took the lid off first)
2. Brush a thin layer of Mod Podge onto your canister. Attach paper on top, using the Mod Podge as the glue.
3. Brush several layers of Mod Podge over the paper, allowing each layer to dry.

Accessorize and store!
(I did purge many headbands and the inside of the canister holds flexible, fabric headbands.)

I didn't put ALL of her headbands back on for this picture. I wanted you to get the idea without it looking 'over loaded' with hair pieces. She still has too many but they are so cute and she really does wear a lot! :)

Bow Making & Baby Bliss

Baby things are by far my favorite things to buy and make.
These super cute Baby Girl socks started out as, well... just socks...
Enter a small bow. Well, two if you're getting technical.

Here's how I make mine:

You'll need to start with your choice of ribbon, cut to 20 inches long.
Fold one side over to 3 1/2 inches:

Fold it back at the 4 inch mark:

Continue wrapping the ribbon around the folds you have already created.
Stick a straight pin right in the middle:

The pin gives you the ease when 'spreading out' the ribbon into the desired shape:

Thread a few stitches right through the middle of the bow:

Gather and pinch:

Wrap the thread around the pinched part (the center of the bow) to secure:

I covered the thread with a piece of ribbon (same color, smaller size) to hide the thread and give the bows a 'finished' look.
Then I stitched the bows onto the socks by hand.

Wha-la!!!!
Super cute... it ALMOST makes me want to have a little girl!
(Mom, I said 'almost'.)
For now, I'll enjoy seeing another cute girl wear them to Church! :)

Even better than making a gift for a baby...
holding a PRECIOUS baby (and a brand new one at that)!
Sorry Buddy, Aunt Lindsey doesn't make pink bow socks for little boys!

Reese and new cousin Ryder (only 11 hours old).

The Night Before the Most Magical Place on Earth!

The night before we left for our GREATLY anticipated trip to Disney World.... and yes, I said the night before.
Side note: I have this great talent (inherited from my mother) to work efficiently and incredible fast when I'm under a super time crunch!
Sooo.....  I had gotten all my other 'chores' finished; laundry, packing, cleaning up the house-so you don't have to come home to a mess, etc.
It was 9 pm (*yawn*, just thinking about it) and I decided to make Reese some Disney Princess headbands for the trip. A Pinterest pin I had pinned awhile ago gave me the idea. The website led me to a place to buy them. $15 a head band was the asking price (ouch).
I decided to save myself the $100 and make them!

Here's what I came up with:

In order of appearance...
Ariel, Snow White, Aurora, Belle, and Cinderella

We couldn't go to Disney World without Mouse accessories!

Minnie

(The Minnie headband idea was taken from this hair clip I had made for Reese to wear at Graham's 'Mickey Mouse' 2nd birthday party. They were party favors for the girls too!)

Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)

Snow White

Ariel

Cinderella

Belle

My favorite Princess is Belle. So glad she liked the headbands! :)

When I showed Reese all the headbands I made for her, she said, "Where's Rapunzel?"
Oops! (I didn't have a picture to follow to figure out how to make her.)
"Next Disney trip!", I promised.

(Original headbands found here.)
